BAC Community Spotlight: Mark Cooper

February 2019

Mark Cooper

Artist, BAC Board Member

How did you arrive at the Brookline Arts Center?

I was first introduced to the Brookline Arts Center many years ago when my partner taught ceramics here. We hosted several birthday parties for my daughter at the time.

Tell us about your background. How did you become interested in art?
I have an undergraduate degree in Business and attended law school all with the intention of working within social justice.  I discovered art during my undergraduate education and a passion that never left.

What passions do you bring to the BAC community?
I have a long history with collaboration and public art.

What do you enjoy most about the BAC?
I enjoy the potential of BAC to be a warm and welcoming art environment for the community.

What was your favorite childhood art project?
Art did not exist in Southern Indiana where I grew up.  I have vague memories of paint by number and loving it.

Who are some of your art heroes?

My art heroes cover a wide spectrum of media and approaches. My heroes are the teachers in my early practice who through their mentorship made me believe in myself and the possibility of a life including art.

Do you have anything exciting coming up?

I have museum exhibitions in Vietnam and China coming up in the next few months.
