Batik

With its colorful, marbled effects, batik offers a variety of possibilities for decorating fabric. Batik is made with richly colored dyes and designs painted in wax. Portraiture Drawing

This class is a full investigation of portraiture. Learn the anatomy of the human head, in order to realistically convey the character of faces. Lessons include detailed instruction on how to draw anatomically correct head and facial forms, and the practice of taking accurate measurements of the head. Kinetic Sculpture: Making Mobiles
Instructor: Vladimir Barsukov
There is something magical about mobiles. Like living creatures, they move and have personalities; they can be humorous, meditative, or graceful. In this class we will take a look at works of some of the most famous kinetic artists such as Alexander Calder and George Rickey. Students will work with different types of wire and geometrical shapes of wood, plastic, metal sheets, etc. to create their own mobiles. We will explore ways to balance, assemble, and hang mobiles, and students will be encouraged to create their own unique designs. Limited to 6.

Intensive Oil Painting with Kim Mellema

Designed for advanced students who are interested in incorporating non-traditional materials into their Jewelry. Students will learn techniques such as bezel setting, prong setting, epoxy inlay, riveting, and mold making. Working with such materials like epoxy, plexiglass, non-traditional stones, and found objects. Students will be encouraged to experiment in order to create something truly unique.

Jewelry & Metalsmithing
All levels
Learn to make beautiful jewelry with an introduction to metalsmithing techniques. Your teacher will guide you to shape, polish, solder, pierce, etch and embellish jewelry in copper and brass. You can make earrings, bracelets, brooches, boxes and more. Teachers will also introduce hollow forms, stone setting, stone inlay, repousse and reticulation. Projects vary with experience level and teachers. Silver available for a small additional fee. Limited to 6.

Enameling
Open to ages 14+ Enameling is the process of fusing glass onto metal. Enamels are available in a rainbow of colors, as well as small glass "flower" chips and decal sheets. Suitable for beginners to advanced students. In this class students will learn the principles of metal preparation, enamel application and finishing processes. Beginners can expect to leave with a finished piece of jewelry or a small dish. Intermediate and advanced students can use this as a chance to explore new techniques, or continue working on a project of their own design. Students may enroll in one or more sections.

Nuno felting is the Process of adhering the finest merino fibers to silk gauze through a moisture and agitation technique. This is a wonderful new art form that is easy and results in beautifully layered fabrics. Students can make pieces that are either functional scarves, bags, and clothing or artistic wall hangings. Scherenschnitte: Cut Paper Designs
Instructor: Marc Mancuso
Scherenschnitte (pronounced Sharon-sh-net) is the German word for the art of scissors snipping or paper cutting. Join popular paper sculptor Marc Mancuso and master this elaborate paper craft. Students will learn how to convert existing designs or construct their own designs in this lovely 2-D form of paper craft. Create delicate compositions with multiple layered designs or create accents for family albums or certificates.

Relief Printing

Relief printing came into use about 5,200 years ago in the Near East, when the ancient Sumerians pressed carved stone seals into clay. Learn how to create images with a technique that allows you to print multiple copies. We will experiment with several quick techniques and then concentrate on linoleum block printing. Limited to 15.

Decoupage is a collage technique that you can use to decorate your home with a personal style and flair! In this class you will focus on traditional and new techniques, and more sophisticated approaches to design and composition. Make lampshades, boxes, trays and other creative ideas. Students should bring their favorite magazine to class. Several projects will be completed. No prior experience is necessary.
