Tots Learn Art with Merrill Smith

Merrill Smith "I think of it as a big birthday party," Merrill Smith said of the Moms, Dads and Tots Class she teaches six-times a week. "The space is just clean enough and just dirty enough for the kids to feel really comfortable. There's an underlying structure to the class but basically I put out an interesting assortment of things and the kids have a whole big room to do anything they want on their own time. Meanwhile, the moms have a place to come together to make friends and just talk. For the moms and the kids it's such a positive experience where everything they do is fine - just fine." Her face lights up with that wonderful warm smile as she added, "It's really a magical place." "I was one of 5 children," Merrill continued. "I was so lucky. I grew up in a big old farm house. We had art all around us. There were stencils on the floors and we all drew murals and my mother painted them. She was such a generous person. I adored her and I adore my own kids. This class helps me share those feelings."
