Portraiture

This class is a full investigation of portraiture. Learn the anatomy of the human head, in order to realistically convey the character of faces. Lessons include detailed instruction on how to draw anatomically correct head and facial forms, and the practice of taking accurate measurements of the head. Draw facial features in detail, and build your skills in capturing your subject�s character.

Figure Drawing

Flora and Fauna

Learn to realistically capture the natural color and texture of flowers and animals using pencil and watercolor techniques. Fine-tune your observation skills as you learn how to draw flowers, plants and animals with attention to detail and color accuracy. Explore light and shade, form, and color mixing. Focusing on textures such as fur, feathers and scales you will master the facial expressions, natural patterns and the unique characteristics of plants and animals. Jewelry & Metalsmithing

Learn to make beautiful jewelry with an introduction to metalsmithing techniques. Your teacher will guide you to shape, polish, solder, pierce, etch and embellish jewelry in copper and brass. You can make earrings, bracelets, brooches, boxes and more. Teachers can also introduce hollow forms, stone setting, stone inlay, repousse and reticulation. Kinetic Sculpture: Making Mobiles

Instructor: Vladimir Barsukov

There is something magical about mobiles. Like living creatures, they move and have personalities; they can be humorous, meditative, or graceful. In this class we will take a look at works of some of the most famous kinetic artists such as Alexander Calder and George Rickey. Students will work with different types of wire and geometrical shapes of wood, plastic, metal sheets, etc. to create their own mobiles. We will explore ways to balance, assemble, and hang mobiles, and students will be encouraged to create their own unique designs. Limited to 6.

Enameling

Open to ages 14+

Enameling is the process of fusing glass onto metal. Enamels are available in a rainbow of colors, as well as small glass "flower" chips and decal sheets. Suitable for beginners to advanced students. In this class, students learn the principles of metal preparation, enamel application and finishing processes. Returning students can explore new techniques, or continue working on projects of their own design. Students may enroll in one or more sections. Limited to 6.

Batik

With its colorful, marbled effects, batik offers a variety of possibilities for decorating fabric. Batik is made with richly colored dyes and designs painted in wax. From Memories to Art!

In this course students will learn to transfer their own images to a variety of surfaces including fabric, wood, paintings and tiles. Wheelthrowing

All Levels

Beginner classes focus on wheel throwing fundamentals. Intermediate and advanced classes allow students to expand their repertoire of forms. Demonstrations include plates, lids, handles, altered forms, and throwing off the hump. The class focuses on quality of design and execution. Soap Making

Want to learn how to make soap from scratch? Curious about the cold process? Then this is the perfect class for you! You will learn safety guidelines and reach a level of comfort so that you can finally make soap by hand at home! Start making soap this fall for the holiday gift-giving season. We will discuss safety precautions, how to formulate your own recipes, saponification, how to recognize "trace", various oils, additives and exfoliants, coloring, molds, curing, and how to recognize mishaps. Students will receive soap recipes and a list of favorite suppliers. We will make several batches of soap as a class. Each student will take home 5 handmade bars. This class is a great gift for a friend...or yourself.

Balancing Figures and Toys

Balancing figures have been around for centuries as decorative items or folk toys. They are whimsical, educational, interactive, and soothing. Make one to put on your desk at work or at home and enjoy watching it; the physics of the balance and the movement are intriguing and amazing. In this class, students will make balancing figures from paper, wooden shapes, wires, and thin sheets of metal. Some wirework techniques will taught. Students will make at least one figure to take home, and have the knowledge and skills to make balancing figures on their own. Also offered as a workshop. Limited to 6.

Beaded Jewelry

Come learn the joys of creating and making your own beaded jewelry! Learn how to use the proper tools and materials. Start and finish pieces such as necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Instructions will cover a variety of techniques that will take you from basic beading to more intricate designs and methods, such as multi-strand pieces and wire wrapping.

This course will focus on the basic techniques of decoupage and faux painting. In this workshop you will change a home decor piece into something new, customizing it to reflect your own personality.
