The Basics of Drawing

Instructor: Sue Funk

Using careful observation and deconstruction of subjects, learn the fundamentals of drawing. Students will learn shading, cross-hatching, and perspective: lessons include line drawing, sketching, and gesture drawing. Enjoy the basics of drawing in a relaxed and informal class that easily inspires new or returning artists. Limited to 10.

Gelatin Monotype Printmaking

A fun introduction to printmaking that encourages intuitive expression, gelatin monotypes resemble many mechanical printmaking processes like woodcuts, collagraphs, serigraphs, and lithographs, but with their own unique quality.

Oil Painting

Contemporary Painting!

For the person who has some experience in oil or acrylic painting and wants to benefit from a class while working somewhat independently. Explore painting and develop a personal style (representational or abstract) while increasing your mastery of painting techniques. Techniques of painting will be addressed on an individual basis. Students are encouraged to view contemporary painting in galleries, museums, and the internet.

Basics of Oil Painting

A four-week introduction to the basics of oil painting: we will focus on developing fundamental skills. In this class, students get lots of practice by making many “starts”, helping them to relax while painting and develop confidence with the medium. Acrylics Abstract Painting

Abstract art represents the artist’s desire to express a reality coming from within themselves. Starting from the techniques of other abstract artists, the class will expand on abstract vocabulary to find our own methods and new modes of expression. We will work in acrylic paints only, however, guidance can also be provided for translating this approach into oil paint. A materials list will be provided.

Jewelry & Metalsmithing, ALL LEVELS

Learn to make beautiful jewelry with an introduction to metalsmithing techniques. Your teacher will guide you to shape, polish, solder, pierce, etch and embellish jewelry in copper and brass. You can make earrings, bracelets, brooches, boxes and more. Teachers will also introduce hollow forms, stone setting, stone inlay, repoussé and reticulation. Copper, brass and nickel will be available in class. Silver must be ordered by the student for their own use. Limited to 6.

Decoupage and Faux Painting

This course will focus on the basic techniques of decoupage and faux painting. In this workshop you will change a home decor piece into something new, customizing it to reflect your own personality. Make lampshades, boxes, trays, or anything your creaive brain can think up! Students should bring their favorite pre-cut images, magazines, greeting cards or photographs. Max 8

Felting Intensive

Instructor: Ramune Jauniskis

Learn Nuno and wet felting to create unique, functional products that are shaped and colored to reflect your unique aesthetic.This is a wonderful new art form descended from some of the earliest natural fabrics: it is easy and results in beautifully layered fabrics. Students can make pieces that are either functional such as scarves, bags, and clothing, or artistic wall hangings. Max. 10.
