A Metals Sampler: Jewelry & Metalsmithing
Ages 12+, Adults Welcome
This class will explore the different types of metals used in Metalsmithing. Techniques include shaping, polishing, soldering, piercing, etching and embellishing in copper and brass. Silver available for a small additional fee. Students will be encouraged to create their own unique designs for a special occasion or gift. Limited to 6.

Enameling
Ages 12+, Adults Welcome
Instructor: Heather Wang
Enameling is the process of fusing glass onto metal. Enamels are available in a rainbow of colors, as well as small glass "flower" chips and decal sheets. Suitable for beginners to advanced students. In this class, students learn the principles of metal preparation, enamel application and finishing processes. Returning students can explore new techniques, or continue working on projects of their own design. Limited to 6.

Building an Installation
Ages 10+
Instructor: Siobhan Landry
Let your imagination run wild in this class that mixes everyday objects with the latest in contemporary art. Projects will include mythical paper mache animal creatures, artist journals, and personalized stencils, building up to a student-driven life-size installation that will be exhibited at the BAC. We will look at contemporary artists like Michael Lucero and modernists like Joseph Cornell, to provide a historical framework for the class. Experimentation is encouraged and creativity is valued!

Watercolor & Drawing,
Beginner/Intermediate
Ages 9 - 13

This is a basic class in which students learn to see as artists do. Students will be introduced to different mediums including pencil, pastel, charcoal, ink and watercolor. Working from nature and still life, students will gain awareness of line and nuance, while developing technical and observational skills. The skills learned will be the basis for a lifetime of art education. Limited to 8.

How to Draw Manga Comics

Want to know how Chobits, Inuyasha and Spiderman are sketched and set into complex adventures? Then this is the class for you. We will examine the conventions in character design, motion, storytelling, and setting. Using basic and advanced drawing techniques, students will create this exciting genre in their own style, while broadening their artistic skills.

Learn to Draw like a Pro!

This fun, yet intensive, course will cover basic drawing with a focus on the character. Assignments will build upon each other beginning with drawing shapes, use of light and shadow, perspective and composition. We will then draw the figure: basic anatomy, construction of the body, poses and gesture drawing. Drawing supplies and materials will be provided. Limited to 10.

Master the steps needed to make your own comic book. Learn character design, plotting and perspective. You will master all the tricks to creating a dynamic page turner. All you need is paper, pencils and a vivid imagination! Beginner / Advanced students are welcome. Limited to 10.

Recycle and redesign clothing using additive, subtractive and experimental techniques, By reexamining the function and symbolism of clothing fresh ideas and designs will emerge, giving new life and energy to any closet. Whether it's a bathrobe, tuxedo, or skirt, students will be excited by the challenge to reinvent their selection in a thoughtful and creative way. Students will sew by hand, use fabric glue and iron on tape. Sewing Machines welcome. Limited to 8.

NEW! Textiles Print & Paint on Fabric
Ages 9-12
Instructor: Adrienne Vodraska
Design you own patterns and create textile artworks through printing and painting on fabric. Using block printing, stenciling and fine brushwork, students will learn how to build-up patterns and layer imagery to create interesting patterns with visual depth. With finished fabrics students will design functional or decorative artworks, such as pillows, quilts, purses or wall hangings. Lessons will also include the application of fine embellishments such as beadwork and embroidery.

Fantasy & Folk: Drawing & Painting
Ages 7-9

In this class students will refine their skills in drawing and painting while populating their worlds with fantastic characters. Working with colored pencil, ink, watercolor, and mixed media students will learn to accurately render magical landscapes, playful still lifes and mystical figures. This is a wonderful class for the artist that never stops, offering a variety of media and unintimidating subjects that will inspire and encourage students.

Beginning Painting
Ages 9-13
Instructor: Olivia Lundberg
In this beginner's class, students will learn the fundamentals of painting while studying traditional and contemporary painters. Lessons will include color theory and basic techniques such as layering and highlighting. Working from still life students will learn to break down objects to simple forms then build in details. This class will provide the knowledge and confidence to tackle painting; beginning with acrylics and progressing to oils.

Pottery & Wheelthrowing
Learn about the creative possibilities of clay. These classes will introduce students to hand-building techniques and the basics of wheelthrowing. Students will develop sensory skills, an understanding of balance and concepts of textures. Both individual and group instruction will be available. All projects will be kiln fired. Limited to 8.

Each week students will look at a new artist or a distant culture, then create their own inspired artworks. This is an excellent introductory class that will excite imaginations and allow students to survey perspective drawing, landscape painting, 3-D collage, pastels and much more! Students will be encouraged to express their thoughts about various works of art as well as develop their own skills and unique style.
