Learn rendering skills for still-lives, portraits, landscapes or abstracts. This course covers various techniques for creating rich and complex drawings and paintings, including color mixing, layering acrylics and colored pencils and more. No class 10/9. September 18-December 11

Students at all levels of experience are welcome to participate in this studio-style course. Beginners will learn techniques and tricks to understand how to use watercolors effectively and efficiently to create beautiful works of art, and have the chance to try mixed-media by incorporating pen and ink techniques. Advanced students are encouraged to embark on personal projects. No class 10/9. October 2-December 11

 

 

Open Studio: Batik

Day: Monday (9 weeks)

Time: 7:00-9:30pm

With its colorful marbled effects, batik offers a variety of possibilities for decorating fabric. Learn to express your unique style in scarves and clothing, pillows, wall hangings, sculptures or greeting cards with this inspiring medium. No class 10/9. September 18-November 20

 

 

Introduction to Drawing

Have you always wanted to learn how to draw, or just want to brush up on your skills? In this introduction to drawing class, students are introduced to shading, crosshatching and perspective. Lessons include line drawing, sketching and gesture. Enjoy the basics of drawing in a relaxed and informal environment. New: returning and advanced students will have the opportunity to turn some of their favorite drawings into linocut prints! September 19-December 5

Are you looking for a studio space to work on personal 2D projects? Drop in to our open studio to work independently in a creative and supportive environment. These sessions are drop-in and do not include instruction or materials. No class 11/22. September 20-December 13

 

 

Calligraphy

Day: Wednesday (12 weeks)

Learn the art of beautiful writing with demonstrations and exercises to develop your handwriting. Class projects will include poetry, cards and invitations. Give your dinner party new style with hand-written and beautifully calligraphed names for the place settings. Materials list will be provided to registered participants. No class 11/22. Introduction to Photography

Day: Wednesday (9 weeks)

This class will explore photographic seeing and the visual grammar of photography. Build fundamental skills including focus and position of subjects, composition and lighting considerations. The class combines basic design problems, exercises in seeing elements of the medium and the history and development of photography as an art form. We will also cover basic principles and techniques of camera use, various photographic materials, processes and techniques for image processing and print production. DSLR camera and laptop required. Techniques and methods used in art history as well as by contemporary artists will be featured in class so students may broaden their understanding of the vast world of painting.
