Spring Children's Classes Ages 8-12


MAKERSPACE

Mondays (8 wks), April 1-June 3 (No class April 15 and May 27)

 In this introductory three-dimensional class, students will use a variety of materials, including Papier Mache, clay, wire, nature and recycled materials to invent, design and build! Projects will range from literal adaptations to the mystical and magical, allowing students the chance to bring their own ideas to life in a guided studio class environment. If you can imagine it, you can make it!

 

 

CLAYWORKS: MONSTERS AND MYTHS

Tuesdays (8 wks), April 2- May 28 (No class April 16)

Ancient tales, dangerous dragons, serpentine sea monsters! In this hands-on pottery program students will be introduced to wheelthrowing and handbuilding fundamentals while discovering how mythical stories and tall tales have helped shape the ceramic arts for centuries. These stories will serve as inspiration to create beautiful artworks that are both fun and functional!

 

 
DRAW LIKE A PRO

Tuesdays (8 wks), April 2-May 28 (No class April 16)

Strengthen your drawing skills in this fun and challenging class. Through a series of weekly exercises and sketchbook practice, students will polish their ability to render the world around them. Children will explore different drawing materials and techniques including cartooning, drawing from observation, proportional drawing and more.

 


PAINT LIKE A PRO

Wednesdays (8 wks), April 3-May 29 (No class April 17)

In this foundation class, students will learn to use their creative thinking skills and explore various painting materials and techniques. Students will work from still life, nature and their imaginations to develop their technical skills and gain visual awareness that will serve as a framework for future arts education. This is a great follow-up to Draw Like a Pro!

 

 

CLAYWORKS: OUT OF THIS WORLD

One small step for man, one giant leap for your pottery skills! Shoot for the stars in this hands-on pottery program where students will be introduced to wheelthrowing and handbuilding fundamentals while using the mysteries of the planets, stars and other celestial beings as inspiration to create artworks both fun and functional!

 

 

ART IN THE WILD

Thursdays (8 wks), April 4-May 30 (No class April 18)

This class will explore nature-based art through painting, drawing, sculpture and mixed media. We will look at Eco art, landscape artists and cutting-edge wildlife illustrators for our inspiration. Projects include animal drawings, night sky paintings, collage using objects from nature and more!

 

 

CHARACTERS AND COMICS  (UPDATED DATES)

Fridays (7 wks), April 5-June 7 (No class April 19, April 26 or May 10)

This class will focus on character development and storytelling. Over the session, we will experiment with different illustration techniques and design a cast of characters. Through drawing and writing exercises, we will develop our characters' personalities, backstories and create the world they live in.

 

CLAYWORKS: NATURE BIG AND SMALL (UPDATED DATES)

Saturdays (4 wks), May 4-June 8 (No class May 11 or May 25)

Bring the natural world to the studio in this hands-on pottery program. Students will be introduced to wheelthrowing and handbuilding fundamentals while exploring the shapes of nature from giant canyons to tiny leaves. Learn how the shapes of plants, animals and other organic forms can serve as inspiration to create beautiful artworks that are both fun and functional! 

*12 year olds may register for Jewelry and Metals.

 

*Students in 6th, 7th and 8th grade can register for our Brookline Teen Center classes!
