Summer Intensives Ages 10-12

 

Our Summer Intensives offer students the opportunity to explore artistic mediums of their choosing in both a focused and fun environment. Classes encourage individual artistic exploration as well as introduce and develop techniques and skills for each medium. Each intensive is lead by a professional working artist in their field. Intensives include hands on learning in Pottery and Wheelthrowing, Painting, Drawing, Graphic Novels, Sculpture and more.

 

Classes meet from 9:00am-2:00pm with a 30 minute lunch break and one snack break. Weather permitting, students will take breaks in our beautiful park.

 

 

 

POTTERY AND WHEELTHROWING INTENSIVE

Weeks: July 2-3, July 16-20 (FULL), July 30-August 3 (FULL), August 13-17, August 27-30

 

This hands on pottery program will introduce students to wheelthrowing and handbuilding fundamentals. Explore your creativity while learning techniques for creating your own mugs, bowls and other unique pieces!

*Prices reflect a typical 5-day class. Cost is lower for classes with less than 5 days (i.e. June 19-22).

 

 

MAKING IT MODERN INTENSIVE

Week: June 25-June 29

In this week, students will use the principles of abstraction to create original works based from objects, images and imagination. We will develop personal style and use Modern Art methods to show our own unique perspectives.

 

 

FACES AND FIGURES INTENSIVE

Week: July 9-July 13

Significantly improve your “people skills” in this week-long focus on the human form. Projects include portraits and facial features, life drawing, figure sculpture, drawing hands and feet and more.

 

 

GRAPHIC NOVELS INTENSIVE

Week: July 23-July 27

Explore graphic novels and Comic Con art and its influences on animation, music and film. Students will learn panel design, give realistic expression to their drawings of original characters and create their own graphic novels with a focus on story structure.

 

 

PAINTING TECHNIQUES AND STYLES INTENSIVE

Week: August 6-August 10

Learn the fundamentals of painting, including color mixing, building layers and utilizing various brush strokes. This course explores plein air painting, still-life and personal projects. Students will work primarily in acrylics and watercolors.

 

 

MIXED MEDIA ILLUSTRATION INTENSIVE

Week: August 20-August 24

Expand upon traditional drawing and painting by incorporating experimental techniques such as transfers, textured mediums, stencils and more. Students will take collage to a whole new level and learn about innovative mixed media artists of today.
