Summer Intensives Ages 13-17


Our Summer Intensives offer students the opportunity to explore artistic mediums of their choosing in both a focused and fun environment. Classes encourage individual artistic exploration as well as introduce and develop techniques and skills for each medium. Each intensive is lead by a professional working artist in their field. Intensives include hands on learning in Pottery and Wheelthrowing, Jewelry and Metals, Painting, Drawing, Photography, Sculpture and more.


Classes meet from 9:00am-2:00pm with a 30 minute lunch break and one snack break. Weather permitting, students will take breaks in our beautiful park. A second Jewelry and Metals Intensive will be offered from 2:30-5:30pm.





JEWELRY & METALS INTENSIVE (This class is open to 12 year olds)

Students will gain general knowledge of jewelry making and metalsmithing techniques hands on from day one! Techniques covered will include soldering, piercing, etching and embellishing in copper, nickel and brass.

*Prices reflect a typical 5-day class. Cost is lower for classes with less than 5 days (i.e. July 1-3).

This hands on pottery program will introduce students to wheelthrowing and handbuilding fundamentals. Explore your creativity while learning techniques for creating your own mugs, bowls and other unique pieces!




Week: July 1-July 3

Explore a variety of printmaking techniques and styles in this three-day workshop, including monotypes, linoleum block printing and more. Students will create their own unique prints on paper and cards, and have the chance to incorporate mixed media into their work as well.

Significantly improve your "people skills" in this week-long focus on the human form. Projects include portraits and facial features, life drawing, figure sculpture, drawing hands and feet and more.



Week: July 29-August 2

Improve upon painting skills by learning various brush strokes, trying different stylistic approaches and applying color theory. This course explores both realism and methods of abstraction. Students will work primarily in acrylics and watercolors and have the opportunity to try their hand at oils.




Week: August 12-August 16

This class combines techniques in drawing with methods in illustration such as drafting, composition and character design and rendering with color. Sharpen skills like shading, cross-hatching and perspective and have the chance to tell your own visual stories! Both realistic and animated styles will be explored.

In this intensive, students will learn about activism through art and how issues and causes are represented in the art world. We will look at a variety of activist artists and, using tools such as humor, juxtaposition, text and image and strong visuals, students will create their own pieces based on a cause important to them.
