Artists on FIRE!
Raul Gonzalez and the Attorney Man
Popular Brookline Arts Center instructor Raul Gonzalez may be adding new members to his fanbase: lawyers and law students. Gonzalez and Karen Katz, a BAC member, have collaborated on a new comic book series, Attorney Man. The first issue of Attorney Man is now available for sale online and will also be on sale at this year<92>s Crafts Showcase at the BAC.
Attorney Man tells the stories of two lawyers, Tim Silver and Liselaw Gold at the law firm Cha Chingi Changa LLP. Both Tim and Liselaw have sacrificed their personal lives for their law careers, and have become partners at the firm--only to realize that they have no clients. They unlearn their bad client service habits, develop powers to attract clients and to keep them happy, and save people from bad lawyers, to become the lawyer-superheroes Attorney Man and Liselaw.
The adventures of Attorney Man and Liselaw are meant to be more than entertainment. Katz, Boston-area law firm consultant and the writer behind Attorney Man, also wants the series to a teaching tool for those in the law profession, to stop being talkers and become doers.
Gonzalez, the illustrator behind Attorney Man, teaches The Basics of Drawing to adult BAC students, Learn to Draw Like a Pro! to kids, and How to Draw Manga Comics to all ages. He and Katz met at the BAC, after Katz<92>s children took classes with him. Gonzalez is a Somerville-based artist and a founding member of The Miracle 5, a Somerville art group.
Attorney Man has already caught the interest of publications such as The Boston Globe link to article
and The Wall Street Journal<92>s law blog link to law blog
Gonzalez and Katz have also created a web site for the series at www.attorneyman.org, where the first issue of Attorney Man can be purchased.
Crafts Showcase 2006 at the BAC runs from Thursday, November 30 to Sunday, December 17. Regular Showcase hours are Thursdays from noon to 8pm, and Fridays through Sundays from noon to 6pm.
