Looking at the Night: Photographs by Sean Molloy

Sean Molloy started exploring the beauty of the city after dark when his father was ill with Alzheimer's disease. "Most of my free time was after he had gone to bed, so I went into the city with a camera and it evolved from there," says Molloy.

"After a while, I realized that I didn't know how to use my digital SLR camera, so I took a class at the New England School of Photography, where I really got the technical training I needed for night shots. In fact, one of my teachers was a former NASA engineer from the Apollo program."

Sean's nighttime photos are on view at the Brookline Arts Center in an exhibition entitled Looking at the Night. The show features black and white photos of the Boston area at night. The show is open Monday, September 13 through Friday, November 5, 2010, Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Other examples of Sean Molloy's photographs are on view at the Brookline Public Library Main branch, in Attractions: New Art Coming to the Brookline Arts Center, a group exhibition organized by the Brookline Arts Center and the Brookline Public Library. Molloy is an employee of Brookline Bank, and is also a regular volunteer at the Franklin Park Zoo.

The Brookline Arts Center is located at 86 Monmouth Street, at the corner of St. Mary's Street. The center is easily reached by public transportation on the Green line or the #47 and CT#2 buses.
