Busy Calendar of Upcoming Events in March at the Brookline Arts Center

During the month of March, the Brookline Arts Center is offering a full calendar of free events for local artists and photographers, and anyone interested in learning more about current trends in the Boston-area art scene. The Arts Center is holding lively events all month long, including two photo salons and two group art exhibitions.

On Friday, March 2, the Exposure Project will discuss their art and their progress to become art entrepreneurs in a Photo Salon that begins at 6:30 p.m.. The Exposure Project is a collaboration by Ben Alper, Anastasia Cazabon, Adam Marcinek, and Eric Watts, who exhibit and publish photographers who are working on long-form photo projects. They will discuss their own work and the ups and downs of the process of creating an artist collaborative. In addition, audience members are encouraged to bring their own work to share with the group, for a critique by the presenters.

A second Photo Salon will be presented by photojournalist David Gordon. Gordon has photographed extensively for Community Newspapers. He has also created a number of on-line, multi-media photo projects: he will discuss this new opportunity for artists in more depth at the photo salon. These salons are a great place to learn tricks of the trade and get feedback on your own work; attendees are encouraged to bring a photograph to share.

In addition, the Brookline Arts Center is hosting two gallery exhibitions of contemporary photography: “backs of photographs”: a mysterious and unique series of medium-format photographs by Chandra Meesig; and “Momento,” rich black and white evocations of Paris by Naveed Nour.

The Arts Center will also be hosting two large samples of new art by Brookline artists at two different one-day celebrations of local art. The students of the Brookline Arts Center will show and share their work at the Students’ Art Show on Friday March 9, from 7:30 to 10:00 p.m. This will be a very art-oriented discussion, with some time for socializing. Music will be provided by Michael Nix, on the banjar.

Another community art celebration will be offered two weeks later: the Brookline Artists Open Studios Art Party! at the Brookline Arts Center on March 24 from 7 to 10 p.m.. The night is guaranteed to be a showcase for spectacular art, delectable food, and awesome conversation. For more information, call 617-566-5715 or visit www.brooklineartscenter.com. The Brookline Arts Center is located at 86 Monmouth Street, Brookline, one block from the St. Mary’s stop on the MBTA Green Line. These events are wheelchair accessible, except for the Naveed Nour exhibition.
