Mystery Author Linda Barnes Makes Special Guest Appearance at Brookline Arts Center’s Gala for “Conversation Pieces”

(Brookline, MA – March 21, 2007) Mystery author Linda Barnes will speak at the Brookline Arts Center on Saturday, May 5. The Brookline Arts Center is celebrating the installation of its new sculpture garden, “Conversation Pieces,” that evening with a gala opening reception from 7 to 10 pm.

Barnes is best known as the creator of the Carlotta Carlyle mystery series, which revolve around Boston private eye Carlotta Carlyle. Titles in this eleven-novel series include A Trouble of Fools, The Snake Tattoo, Hardware, and most recently, 2006’s Heart of the World. She has also written four other novels featuring amateur sleuth Michael Spraggue, and a number of award-winning plays and short stories. A Detroit native, Barnes came to Boston to study at Boston University, and has remained in the Boston area ever since, as a drama teacher, director and writer.

“Conversation Pieces” is a garden of contemporary sculptures created by Massachusetts-based artists that surrounds the perimeter of the Brookline Arts Center’s historic 19th century fire station building. It is yet another extension of the Arts Center’s effort to bring high-quality and affordable art programs to the community, in the form of exhibitions, classes, and many more art outreach events.

“We look forward to having Ms. Barnes speak at the gala,” said Susan Navarre, Executive Director of the Brookline Arts Center. “As a member of the community, she loves this neighborhood and the lovely green space and art opportunities that the Brookline Arts Center and neighboring Monmouth Park provide.”

The gala reception for “Conversation Pieces” will also feature a delicious tasting menu, fine wines, a silent auction, and live music by members of the Boston Guitar Project. Tickets to the opening are $75. To reserve tickets to the event, or for more information, please contact the Brookline Arts Center at 617-566-5715. The Brookline Arts Center is located at 86 Monmouth Street in Brookline, one block from the St. Mary's stop on the MBTA Green line.
