Brookline Urban Photographer Marc Goldring Leads Discussion Salon at Brookline Arts Center: Remembering the Familiar

The Brookline Arts Center will host an opening reception and a discussion of photography in a free Photo Salon, led by urban photographer and Brookline resident Marc Goldring on Sunday, April 23, 2006, at 3:00 pm. Marc Goldring is exhibiting his photographs of the often-overlooked beauty in urban landscapes, in an exhibit entitled "Remembering the familiar" at the BAC Gallery from April 18 to May 12, 2006.

Marc Goldring's attention to the small details of everyday urban life - construction sites, urban puddles, light shimmering off stairwells - draws the viewer's attention to the beauty of commonplace items. His photographs capture the smallest detail of a puddle along the Charles River, or the texture patterns of ice on Jamaica Pond. Marc Goldring describes his approach as one of trying to remember beauty, "not just in the obvious places, but the vast array of intimate, randomly composed spots that we often walk by -- especially in cities -- without noticing."

The April 23rd salon is part of the Brookline Arts Center's ongoing monthly program to bring together artists, photographers, students and professionals to share their work with one another. Salons are open to photographers of all levels and to the general public.

Community members are encouraged to attend the reception and discussion, on Sunday April 23, from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm. A part of the afternoon session is set aside for those attending to share their own photographs for display and feedback. Both digital and film photographers are welcome. The salon is free and open to the public, but donations will be accepted. Light refreshments will be served.

Marc Goldring's photographs will remain on display at the Brookline Arts Center from April 18 to May 12, 2006. For more information, call 617-566-5715 or visit www.brooklineartscenter.com.

The Brookline Arts Center is located at 86 Monmouth Street, Brookline, one block from the St. Mary's stop on the MBTA Green Line. The photo salon is handicapped accessible. The programs of the Brookline Arts Center are sponsored in part by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency; the Brookline Commission for the Arts; and the Brookline Community Foundation.
