Press Release - January 19, 2006 - Madeleine de Sinéty Presents Images of Snow
Maine Photographer Madeleine de Sinéty Presents Images of Snow, Steam and Work in Matt Lord, horse logger at Brookline Arts Center
From February 1 through 29, 2006, French-born Maine photographer Madeleine de Sinéty will present Matt Lord, horse logger at the Brookline Arts Center. This series of works can also be viewed at a free opening reception on Friday, February 3, from 6 to 8 p.m.
When he was 30, Matt Lord left a job at a paper mill to become an independent logger in Chesterville, Maine, working in the woods exclusively with Belgian draft horses. The horses are a slower, but more environmentally friendly method of logging. Madeleine de Sinéty's photos show the power and grace of the horses, and the close relationship between the logger and his team.
In the Matt Lord series of photographs, the steaming horses and falling snow inhabit an atmospheric and romantic beauty in scenes of hard work and independence.
De Sinéty's work has been in the collections of the Bibliotheque Nationale and a number of museums in France. Her work is also in the collections of the Portland Museum of Art and in private collections in the United States and France.
Gallery hours are Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Admission is free. The Brookline Arts Center is located at 86 Monmouth Street in Brookline, one block from the St. Mary's stop on the MBTA Green line. For more information, call 617-566-5715 or www.brooklineartscenter.com.
