June 15 - July 14, 2006
Opening Reception on Friday June 16, 6:00 - 8:00 pm
The Brookline Arts Center will hold an exhibit of autobiographical Postcard Art by Ruth Abrams and her students, from June 15 - July 14, 2006. This exhibition is timed to coincide with the National Collage Society Postcard Show at Lincoln Center, New York City.
Brookline area residents will have a chance to meet the 82-year-old artist and her students at the opening reception on Friday, June 16, 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the Brookline Arts Center. Ms. Abrams, a longtime Brookline resident, who was inspired to take up art in her retirement, has been working with seniors to design collages based upon autobiographical memories and materials.
Ruth Abrams is also the host of the award-winning community cable TV ElderVision on Brookline (MA) Access Television. Ruth began her art and videography career when she retired as the Director of Amenities at New England Baptist Hospital in 1994. Since that time, she has shown her collage and assemblage work at many venues including Newbury College Gallery and the Boston Museum of Science. She has won seven awards since 1995 for her video work including the 1998 Massachusetts Cable Television Division.
"We are delighted that Ruth will be with us to share work by the remarkable men and women she has met during her collage workshops with seniors. She has a talent for firing the imagination, bringing memories to the surface, and igniting her students' passion for art", said Susan Navarre, executive director of the Brookline Arts Center.
The Brookline Arts Center is located at 86 Monmouth Street, Brookline, one block from the St. Mary's stop on the MBTA Green Line. The gallery is handicapped accessible. For more information, call 617-566-5715 or visit www.brooklineartscenter.com.
