Monday Classes

  • Oil Painting

    Ages 16+

    Dates June 24 - August 26 | 10 wks

    Description This is a painting class for students looking to enhance their skills in oil painting. We will cover a variety of subjects such as landscape, still life, and portraiture while learning and refining technique through color theory and material understanding. How can we as artists manipulate our materials to communicate through visual language? This class is for all levels of experience.

  • Adult Jewelry & Metals

    Description Make beautiful jewelry with instruction from a working artist. They will guide you to shape, polish, solder, pierce, etch and embellish jewelry in copper and brass. Hollow forms, stones settings, stone inlay, repousse and reticulations will also be introduced. This class is for all levels of experience.+

  • Adult Wheelthrowing & Handbuliding (All Levels)

    Description This class focuses on developing wheelthrowing, handbuilding, and surface design techniques. Through a series of in-class exercises and projects, students will learn relief carving, coil building, advanced underglaze application methods, and basic wheelthrowing skills. No previous ceramic knowledge is required.

    All artworks will be available for pick up 4-6 weeks after the last class. You will be contacted when your pieces are ready to be picked up.

  • Freeform Knitting and Crochet: Creating your Own Designs

    Ages 16+

    Description Learn how to design your own knitwear based on color and yarn on hand. Let color and texture guide you in designing your own garments and surface patterns in knitting or crochet. The class will touch on aspects such as using scrap yarn, creating a color palette, and the intarsia technique. We will discuss ways to achieve free-flowing color patterns in a grid-locked medium as well as important garment design aspects such as drape and shape. Each week we will get together to develop our own designs with the intention of having a finished garment by the end of the class. Knowledge of basic knitting or crochet techniques required.

  • Adult Pottery & Wheelthrowing (Beginners)

    Description "In this introductory class, you will be introduced to fundamentals of both wheelthrowing and handbuilding. The teacher will provide you with step-by-step instructions and demonstrations to help you create unique clay objects. Demonstrations include cups, vases, plates, lids, throwing off the hump, and more. All levels will learn about decorating techniques. This class is for students who have not taken any previous pottery & wheelthrowing classes. No previous ceramic knowledge is required.

    Description Color is one of the most powerful, and complex, tools that artists and designers can use to influence emotions and connect with audiences. Explore the role of light, the theory of colour and its psychological impact, and how to use hue, value and intensity to skillfully integrate color into your drawings. Combine drawing skills across nature, still life, figurative, and imaginative assignments that emphasize an expressive use of color through pencil, pastel, charcoal, and watercolor. Enjoy learning about the use of colour in contemporary art and finding your own unique style as we explore the two-dimensional world of drawing and colour combined.

  • Figurative Modeling

    Description This course delves into an exploration of the human figure in maquette size. Through the hands-on practice of modeling oil-based clay from the observation of live models, participants will examine the sculptural construction of the figure. We will apply concepts such as proportion, form, and positive and negative space, all in relation to bodily expression, movement, and its contextual surroundings. Working from a live model will act as a foundational cornerstone, where initial observations are sketched on paper allowing for clear understanding when translated into sculptural representations. Once completed we will cast the final maquettes in paper and plaster gauze, allowing for painting of their final surfaces.

  • What a Relief! Introduction to Printmaking

    Ages 16+

    Description Carve into a new medium with this introduction to relief printmaking! We will create bold images, cut from wood or linoleum and ready to be printed as many times as you like. Using a variety of carving tools, we'll learn not only what techniques best suit which materials but also some fundamentals of printmaking like working with inks and creating editions.

    Description Part character design class, part high fantasy adventure, all imagination! Together we will embark on an adventure akin to Dungeons and Dragons: creating characters, rolling dice, and playing the game with an artistic twist! Each class we will not only progress our campaign but we'll also take time to draw our characters, sculpt the arenas we fight in, chart the maps our adventures span, and more to bring the fantasy to life! We will learn not only how to draw and play, but how to work as a team and tell stories together.
