    Description Curious about wheelthrowing? Create unique clay objects in this introduction to wheelthrowing & handbuilding workshop. In this one-day workshop, your instructor will provide you with step-by-step instruction and demonstrate a variety of wheelthrowing and/or handbuilding techniques and fundamentals. You will have the chance to decorate your work with underglaze, and can choose one glaze for each of their pieces!

    All artworks will be available for pick up 4-6 weeks after class. You will be contacted when your pieces are ready to be picked up. No previous ceramic knowledge is required.

    Description Join us in exploring the curious world of the human form in our Figure Drawing Studio. This is an open studio format with no instruction provided. We will start with quick warm-ups and short poses and then move into a long pose for the last hour.

    We encourage artists who join to explore the use of different materials, drawing styles, and techniques (dry media only, please). Participants must bring their own materials. A studio monitor will be present and no instruction will be provided. Advanced registration is preferred but not required.

    Pre-Registered price will be $20 and the Door price will be $30 Day-Of. Pre-registered tickets will be available to reserve until the Friday before each session. We accept cash and card at the door. If you plan to pay the door price, please email office@brooklinaertscenter.com atleast 24 hours in advance to confirm if the session will be running.

  • Teapots & Lidded Vessels

    Description This workshop will focus on the foundations of designing and creating functional ceramic teapots. We will discuss the formal and functional considerations that go into creating teapots, from lids to spouts and beyond. Technical demonstrations will focus on wheel throwing techniques, but hand building is also welcome! You will have the chance to decorate your work with underglaze, and can choose one glaze for each of their pieces.

    All artworks will be available for pick up 4-6 weeks after class. You will be contacted when your pieces are ready to be picked up. Students should be comfortable throwing a basic pot on the wheel.

  • Draw Like a Pro in a Day

    Description Draw what you see and see what you draw! In this introductory-level workshop, students will learn the essentials of drawing techniques – specifically drawing from observation and reality. Using graphite to its fullest extent, students will learn simple, effective strategies for observing and drawing that can be carried into any kind of visual art.

    Description Looking for a clay experience that is leisurely and meditative? This coil building workshop focuses on creating forms by hand that can range from functional to sculptural, and from representational to abstract. We will explore a range of techniques to incorporate organic textures and shapes into your pieces! This workshop is ideal for those who are interested in expanding their ceramics outside of the wheel, and all levels of experience are welcome.

  • Abstract Color Design: Creating Your Own Knitting Patterns

    Description Learn how to design your own knitwear based on color and the yarn you have on hand. Let color and texture guide you in designing your own knit surface designs and patterns. We will discuss techniques on how to achieve free-flowing color patterns in a grid-locked medium as well as important garment design aspects such as drape and shape. Knowledge of basic knitting techniques is required. Yarn and knitting needles will be supplied, or feel free to bring your own.

  • Flower Vase Workshop

    Description Have a flower that needs a home? Want to make a unique gift for a special someone? This is the workshop for you!   • Indian Folk Art Workshop

    Description Indian folk art forms are ancient, versatile and indigenous to India. Each has its own style and originated from various states across the country. Learn about Indian art and culture by discovering some of the folk art forms and their beautiful patterns. In this workshop, we will explore the motifs done in different folk art forms and create a beautiful painting in Madhubani Art.

    Description Make your very own lighting fixtures in this inspiring new workshop! Students will be guided through a combination of handbuilding and wheelthrowing techniques to create your own hanging or table lamp. Candle holders, and luminary projects are also encouraged. It is recommended to come in with a few ideas or sketches if you would like to create something of your own design. Materials included are clay and cord hardware for lamps. Materials NOT included are bulbs, shades and candles.

    Description Learn how to make your own one-of-a-kind handmade chain necklace! In this 2-Day Workshop, students will learn how to form and solder links to make their own handmade chain in copper or brass. We will start with learning how to make jump rings and then practice several different chain styles. Students will be able to make their favorite one into a chain with a handmade clasp. This class requires some basic jewelry experience with soldering. Registration closes for all workshops 48 hours before the session begins.

  • Master Copy Workshop

    Description Recreate an original piece of work based on a famous piece of art, a Master Copy! Students should come prepared with a piece of artwork that they respond positively to. Students will also have the opportunity to choose from a selection of original masterpieces provided by the teacher. Students will go around and introduce each other and describe why they chose the piece that they did. Students will be directed to select and utilize five colors from the artwork they brought in and will be prompted to incorporate new objects and themes into their new original paintings. We will think about color, composition, and value. Students will gain an introduction to color theory, and learn basic acrylic painting skills.

  • Beaded Ring Workshop

    Description Learn to bead fun and colorful rings in this beading workshop. You will have a chance to learn the peyote beading stitch, create a color palette, and design a unique pattern.   • Facing the Figure Workshop

    Description Curious about figurative art? Having trouble with proportions? In this abridged version of our Facing the Figure class, students will work from observation of a different live nude model each day. Beginners through advanced students will benefit from our creative and technical exercises in this workshop, designed to enhance your knowledge and build your skills from any level of experience. Dry drawing materials will be provided, including pen, graphite, and charcoal.

  • Print in Design Workshop

    Description The goal of this workshop is to create a compositionally successful image through printmaking! Students will be introduced to a form of relief printmaking using linoleum blocks to create their unique and personal imagery. We will utilize the theory of gestalt principles to help guide us in creating an original design that will make for a fun and interesting print. We will think about composition, balance, and design. Students will gain an introduction to gestalt principles and learn basic printmaking techniques.
