Community Spotlight: Ali Dellarocco

As of January of 2023, Ali is a high school senior and creative at Brookline High School with a passion for art and child care. Ali is also a recurring assistant teacher at the BAC and helps out around the center with special events or within admin.

How did you arrive at the Brookline Arts Center? What sparked your interest in our organization?

I attended classes at the Brookline Arts Center as a kid, and when the center visited my school during a career fair, I grabbed a pamphlet and went researching. I contacted the organization in hopes of becoming involved, and when I was told I could regularly work at the center I was thrilled.

Tell us about your background and interests, and how it relates to the BAC?

My entire life I have been a creative. I have spent my free time from drawing and painting to making music. I self taught myself art and am currently taking AP Art at my highschool. I also am planning on majoring in Psychology and Early Childhood Education at Tulane University next year. I have always had a love for taking care of children and I have worked at summer camps and currently babysit throughout the week. The Brookline Art Center ties my two passions together and seems to be a perfect fit.

What other passions do you bring to the BAC Community?

Outside of BAC I play guitar and sing a variety of genres such as opera and pop in my high school choir and acapella group. I have also interned and been involved in a multitude of community service organizations over the past couple of years.

What has brought you the most joy as a creative?

Creating art without limitations or expectations has brought me the most joy as a creative. I love using art as an expression of my emotion, past, or a thought I want to explore more deeply.

What was your favorite childhood art project?

My favorite childhood art project was building doll houses out of papers. I loved taking my colored construction paper, scissors, and tape, and making mini paper homes.

What is “art” to you?

Art to me is an outlet. Art can be an aesthetic or an expression of self and it is subjective to the individual that perceives it. Art has no medium and can be created in any form.

What are three things you would want the BAC Community to know about you?

1: I love to travel and aspire to travel to as many places as possible

2: I love getting to know new people

3: My favorite food is sushi

When you’re not at the BAC, where can people find you?

Painting or listening to music in my room, or studying with my friends. While on the weekends I can be found volunteering at food pantries or performing in concerts with my choir and acapella group!
