Seren Banner-Goodspeed (she/her)

Meet Seren Banner-Goodspeed, an emerging artist and avid student of the BAC!

What drew you to our visual arts center?

My mother looked for art camps after I aged out of my previous one and thought BAC would be a good fit.

Tell us about your art background! What kinds of art did you practice before arriving at the BAC?

Previously I attended Dot Art for several years. This year will be my third year of BAC. My Nana used to be an art teacher which is what got me into art because I got a lot of art supplies growing up. I do a lot of drawing and sketching.

What class/camp did you take at the BAC, and what was your favorite part about it?

In the past I have taken jewelry and clay classes at BAC. This year, I took photography for the first time and also did a couple weeks of jewelry. One of my favorite parts of the photography week was getting to make collages during the warm up every morning.

What are some new things or techniques you learned during your time at the BAC?

I learned a lot about how digital cameras work and how different settings can impact how your photos look.

I also tried etching for the first time in jewelry class.

What would you say to someone who is considering taking a class at the BAC?

Definitely do it! There are a ton of fun options and it’s a great way to learn something new that’s art related.

How would you define the word β€œArt”? What does it mean to you?

To me art is about creating something using your imagination to express a feeling or idea.
