Sculpting Stories: Anansi's Children

Ages 5-7

Description Join us in bringing the classic West African tale to life through art and imagination! Together we will tell the story of Anansi's six resourceful sons and recreate their heroic deeds through a variety of materials. We'll draw and sculpt the numerous characters from the ornery crow and the hungry fish to the six spider sons themselves. Through art, we will bring fables to life together!

Comics Workshop: Creature Feature

Ages 8-11

Time of Day 9:00am - 4:00pm

Description This vacation day will feature the real and the made-up creatures we love. Whether cuddly, crawly, cute, or wild, we’ll cartoon them, paint them, color pencil them . We’ll take the process from beginning to end: building characters, crafting expressions and poses, selecting shots, inking and color, and generally bringing our stories to life. With a combination of projects, games, silly warmups, and practice exercises, this class aims to help young artists find their comics voices–and use them.

Clay Creations

Ages 10-13

Description Spend your day exploring the wonderful world of clay and all of its sculptural possibilities. Explore techniques such as coil building, double pinch pot making, sculpting slab mugs and more!

Teen Jewelry & Metals

Ages 12-17

Description Spend your day exploring the wonderful world of jewelry and metals! Students will gain a general knowledge of jewelry making and metalsmithing techniques in this half day program. Techniques covered will include soldering, piercing, and embellishing in copper and brass.

Sculpting Stories: Maushop the Friendly Giant

Ages 5-7

Description Join us in bringing the Wampanoag story of Maushop to life through art and imagination! Together we will tell the story of how the friendly giant helped the Wampanoag people and use a variety of materials to recreate the tale. From tiny toothpick forests to giant paper fish, we will bring fables to life together.

Comics Workshop: Animal Edition

Ages 8-11

Description Make the ordinary extraordinary. Explore creating stories and characters through comic panels featuring your favorite animals and pets. Learn about what makes a good story, an interesting character, and create the first page of your own comic book. We’ll be looking at classics such as peanuts and Garfield but also new comics being made now and locally featuring furry friends.

Cyanotype Printing on Pottery

Ages 10-13

Time of Day 9:00am - 2:00pm

Description In this one-day program, students will be learning the art of cyanotype printing on ceramics! Students will use premade ceramic tiles to make cyanotype prints using found objects like leaves, flowers, and textured items. Materials are also provided to turn your print into a wall decoration! Students will engage in discussions related to Indigenous [art] practices using found materials and native plants. This process includes a mild bleaching method. Students will be provided gloves and masks while handling any potentially toxic materials.
