Taking notes from art history as well as contemporary art, immerse yourself in the artistic study of the portrait and the figure. Working from observation of both a live nude model and photographic or sculptural sources, youβll paint and draw with a variety of both traditional and experimental methods, using a broad range of materials from charcoal to oil paint. Description Draw what you see and see what you draw! In this introductory-level class, students will learn the essentials of drawing techniques β specifically drawing from observation and reality. Students will try their hands at classic subjects like still life and portraiture (as well as subjects of their choice!) using a variety of different tools and media. Students will study composition β that is, how a picture βspeaksβ to us β and explore how they can use that language themselves to communicate their own thoughts and ideas through artwork.
